Camping K .
With 70,000 overnight stays per year, K campsite was once one of the largest campsites in the Flemish Ardennes, but for some years the area has been rather desolate. The nearby pond becomes a popular recreation area and in the 80s a campsite is set up in the fields nearby: Camping I. Later the name changes to Camping K. In the 90s the campsite is extended and in 1994 the inauguration of a swimming pool on the domain follows. 16 years later, in 2010, the campsite has become very loss-making. The operator decides to stop the exploitation in December that year.
The owner of the domain then decides to put the land for sale. If after months of searching, no buyer has yet been found, the agency decides to definitively clear the campsite. In June 2011 the last campers will leave and the terrain will remain empty.
The city wants a new campsite on the property and is looking for a buyer through a negotiation procedure with European publication. Eventually the city starts a collaboration with a Dutch holiday company. They are going to develop and exploit the site. Work will start soon and by 2020 a park with about 350 holiday homes will have to open.
